The provincial government spent nearly $100,000 on living expenses for Moya Greene and office space for the Premier’s Economic Recovery Team. The information was revealed during Question Period in the House of Assembly this afternoon.
According to documents given to media by the PC party, the office space was leased for eight months at a cost of $60,000, and Greene’s living space was also leased for eight months at a total cost of $26,000.
Premier Andrew Furey reminds that the team was made up of volunteers, noting that Greene put together the report “free of charge” and that it was important for government to cover her accommodations while in the province.
Further, the Premier says in the past similar reports have cost over $1-million and the PERT report won’t come close to that. He says the benefits of the report far outweigh the costs.
Interim opposition leader David Brazil states that he was surprised to see the costs incurred by the team. He says at a time when restraint should be the focal point of government’s spending, such expenses are “questionable.”
