The Teachers’ Association is asking why more detailed information is not available regarding the impact ongoing COVID cases are having on school communities in two recent outbreaks in the province.
President Dean Ingram says this week’s live COVID media briefing was focused on reopening the province to travellers, yet teachers were left wondering why such limited detail was provided regarding the prevalence of COVID cases among school staff and student populations.
That type of information is more readily available in other jurisdictions according to Ingram, who says the NLTA has been informed by parents, and not Public Health, government, or the school district, about students who have tested positive for COVID-19.
He says the only information his members have received has been the general assurance that Public Health sees no reason to change school operations.
Attendance in the western region has been very low since the cluster first came to light says the union, as was the case in Central Newfoundland as well.
