Mayors on the Northeast Avalon issued a joint statement this morning calling on all partners to come to a resolution that will see the Terra Nova project move into a new phase of productivity.
Late last month, Suncor’s Mark Little indicated that the partners couldn’t reach agreement on moving forward on Terra Nova.
All shareholders must be aligned in order for it to go forward, and ExxonMobil is said not to be interested in the project.
The deadline set for a decision is June 15.
Last week a briefing document obtained through Access to Information revealed that the provincial government offered to buy a 15 per cent equity stake in the Terra Nova oil project.
The joint mayors say the offshore has been integral to the region’s social and economic well-being, and they’re asking for industry and government to find a resolution that will save the project from being abandoned.
