Parts of the island are in for some of the warmest temperatures seen so far this year.
Veronica Sullivan from Environment Canada says parts of eastern Newfoundland will reach 30°C, while temperatures on the Avalon—including St. John’s—will feel like 28° or 29° with the humidity.
The Clarenville region is forecast to reach 30°C, but Sullivan says with the humidex might feel more like 33°. Burin Peninsula can expect highs of 26°, however, 15° along the coast due to southwesterly winds.
However, Sullivan says the wind in the east will be a bit of a reprieve. She says although humidity will be a factor, it shouldn’t feel too uncomfortable as strong southwesterly winds gusting up to 60 km/h should provide some relief from the heat.
Sullivan says things will cool down tomorrow and will feel a lot more seasonal with light winds, and temperatures in the mid to high teens.
For Thursday she says showers are expected for the east coast but don’t look like much accumulation but will make for much cooler temperatures with highs in the single digits.
