Unionized workers at the military base in central Labrador are going to demonstrate tomorrow over layoffs at the facility.
The Public Service Alliance of Canada says 11 employees have been laid off with more expected. They’re launching a “fight back” campaign to pressure SERCO, the Department of National Defence and local politicians to put a halt to any further layoffs.
Jonathan Cull, president of the local, says they cannot accept that SERCO’s shareholders keep increasing their profits on the back of the local company. He says one job loss in Happy Valley-Goose Bay is too many.
The protest is set for 12:00 Friday.
