Dozens of people rallied in St. John’s over the lunch hour in support of the province’s Muslim community following a deadly attack on an Ontario family that left four dead and one survivor—a nine-year-old boy.
The show of solidarity was held outside Masjid Al Noor—the mosque on Logy Bay Road—in support of the Afzaal family and the Muslim community.
Some attendees carried signs condemning Islamophobia and hate, and applauded as speakers took to the stage calling for all levels of government to address racism in their communities.
I'm told that the name Afzaal means "kindness." This is the Afzaal family tree of kindness, where people are encouraged to leave a kind message for the family and the muslin community. @VOCMNEWS pic.twitter.com/Ftx2Os4oDW

Biographies of each of the victims were read aloud, followed by a moment of silence for those who were killed and for the young boy who survived.
President of the Muslim Association of NL, Syed Pirzada believes their calls for action have been heard. He states that now is the time for the talk to stop, and action to begin.
