A humpback whale has been hanging around the harbour in Catalina since the weekend, leading some residents to believe that something could be wrong.
The Department of Fisheries and Oceans went to check on the whale, and determined the animal was not entangled.
Wayne Ledwell of the Whale Release and Strandings group says they received another call yesterday that the whale was still in the area. Ledwell says they went out to find the humpback and it was feeding and moving around.
There was concern that the whale was not showing its tail, but Ledwell says that wouldn’t be unusual if the whale was feeding in shallow water.
