The Carbonear town council is setting a meeting up with Eastern Health and provincial government officials this week to discuss the future and importance of the Carbonear General Hospital.
Mayor Frank Butt says the hospital serves a catchment area of over 70,000 residents spread over a large area.
He says the town and its residents are concerned about the implications the Health Accord could have on the services provided at the hospital, which was built in the mid-70s to replace the old community hospital.
He says they will let them know that any cuts to services at Carbonear General are “unacceptable.”
