Nature lovers across the province are being invited to join their fellow Canadians in the Nature Conservancy’s 2021 #BioBlitz.
Director with the Nature Conservancy of Canada in Newfoundland and Labrador, Piers Evans says residents are encouraged to log on and record the natural diversity found in their own backyards.
While many people upload pictures, they can also upload birdsong for birds that can be heard but not seen.
Last year across Canada over 20,000 observations of flora and fauna were logged and identified.
Evans says the most unusual species logged in someone’s backyard last year was a type of jellyfish.
“A few folks in Newfoundland could give that a run for its money,” says Evans, with pods of Orca and humpbacks congregating close to shore.
