Ten dollar a day childcare is coming to Newfoundland and Labrador. The federal and provincial governments announced the program at the College of the North Atlantic this afternoon.
It will be in place for kids under the age of six by 2023. The cost goes down to $15 a day in 2022 and $10 a day by 2023.
Education Minister Tom Osborne says the agreement will see $347-million go into childcare between now and 2026. Almost 6,000 new spaces will be created throughout the province over the next several years.
There will also be a pre-kindergarten program in 2025-26 to provide children with a strong foundation entering kindergarten. It will be for four-year-olds.
The agreement also includes a labour force analysis for early childhood educators.
