Newfoundland and Labrador is sending eight more forest fire fighting personnel to help control fires in the northwestern region of Ontario. This includes five firefighters, two student firefighters and an equipment and logistics crew coordinator who will join other personnel from Atlantic Canada to form a 17-person crew.
They’re expected to be there for close to three weeks.
In addition to them, another team of seven forest firefighters and two waterbombers from the province are currently on deployment in Ontario but they are scheduled to return this weekend.
Government assures us that adequate fire suppression resources remain in place throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.
