Sometimes it’s an easy call, sometimes not so easy. The winds will be the issue when the Royal St. John’s Regatta Committee huddles at the Boathouse at Quidi Vidi Lake bright and early tomorrow morning.
Southwesterly winds are forecast 30-50 km/h, right on the borderline.
Whenever it goes ahead, Regatta 2021 will take on a different flavour with no concessions and limited space for spectators.

Committee President Bradley Power says they’re asking people to keep to their steady twenty and in a cohort circle when watching their race of interest. They’re asking people not to spend any more than 30-40 minutes at a time.
Power says they will spend the day educating people about the importance of maintaining physical distancing when at the pond.
COVID ambassadors will be walking the lake and encouraging adherence to Public Health guidelines. Power says if there are large gatherings, they will not hesitate to shut things down but he’s confident that people will put safety first.
Regatta Day Road Closures

(Road closures around Quidi Vidi for the 2021 Royal St. John’s Regatta.)
Clancey Drive, Lake Avenue, Carnell Drive and Lakeview Avenue will be shut down except for designated vehicles. The Boulevard will remain open to traffic, but parking and stopping are not permitted. If problems develop, the city will close it off.
Parking for participants of the event will be at the lower Dominion parking lot on Lake Avenue, which can be accessed via the north entrance to Dominion off King’s Bridge Road.
The changes will be in effect from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Metrobus Running Sunday Schedule

Those relying on public transit on Regatta Day should plan ahead, as Metrobus will be operating on its Sunday schedule.
Due to the changes to this year’s event, Metrobus says there will be no Regatta shuttles this year.
