An industry that was particularly hard-hit by the pandemic is doing what it can to help stock local foodbanks with fresh meat and game.
The Newfoundland and Labrador Outfitters Association donated freezers to four foodbanks—in St. John’s, Gander, Deer Lake and Goose Bay—to provide freezer capacity to accept and safely store wild game meat donations.
Executive Director Cory Foster says the Sharing the Harvest pilot project has proven to be a success and they wanted to do what they could help provide fresh meat to those who could benefit the most.
That’s what prompted them to donate a total of four freezers to Bridges to Hope, The Gander Community Food Bank, the Deer Lake Community Food Bank and the Labrador Friendship Centre in Goose Bay.
