A house fire in Point of Bay near Botwood has resulted in charges of arson and disregard for human life against a 77-year-old man.
Emergency crews were called to a fire on the main road shortly after 7 p.m. Monday evening. A woman inside the home escaped with minor injuries.
Police say Jerome Power was arrested a short time later for allegedly intentionally setting the fire while knowing that the house was occupied.
Power was treated for minor injuries and appeared in provincial court yesterday.
Power has been charged with arson, disregard for human life and uttering threats. He’s been remanded to custody pending his next court appearance tomorrow.
The investigation continues.
