Two schools in the Newfoundland and Labrador English School District are left battered and in need of repairs following significant damage from Hurricane Larry.
Mary Queen of Peace on Torbay Road in St. John’s and Stella Maris Academy in Trepassey both sustained roof damage overnight Friday due to the high winds that came with Hurricane Larry.
The high winds damaged a number of buildings, roads, and shorelines and wrecked the Iceberg Alley Performance tent when sweeping over the eastern portion of the island, late Friday night into Saturday morning.

The NLESD says staff and contractors were on site for much of the day Saturday to assess the extent of the damage and the repairs required.
They remain hopeful that the repairs can be completed quickly.
As for what that means for classes on Monday, that remains to be seen.
The Newfoundland and Labrador English School District says an update regarding the status of classes for Monday will be provided sometime today.
VOCM News will provide updates as they become available.
