A group of about 50 residents of Salmon Cove and Victoria has gathered outside the office of area MHA Steve Crocker in Carbonear seeking answers following an algae bloom that killed fish and forced the temporary closure of Salmon Cove Sands and a scheduled salmon river over the summer.
Salmon Cove resident Eric Penney says they have serious questions and concerns about the treatment of waste water in the town of Victoria, a land-locked community inland from Salmon Cove in Conception Bay North.

Penney says the system used in Victoria is one that uses settling ponds and UV lights, the effluent from which flows into Forest Pond and then into a scheduled salmon river, Salmon Cove Pond and out through Salmon Cove Sands, a popular beach area.
Penney says area residents are frustrated with the situation and an apparent lack of action.
