The sentencing hearing began this morning for suspended RNC officer Douglas Snelgrove, convicted of sexually assaulting a woman after giving her a ride home in his police car while on duty.
The Crown is looking for jailtime of five years while the defence has proposed 18 months to two years.

Snelgrove’s wife said his actions were morally wrong but that she never believed him to be a criminal. Crown prosecutor Lloyd Strickland said his behaviour is a stain on the entire administration of justice and damages the reputation of the RNC.
The hearing began in Supreme Court in St. John’s this morning with sentencing set for November 12.
