Phillip Pynn assured a judge yesterday that he’s ready to turn his life around — again.
The 35-year-old had been arrested three times since his return to the province late last year.
Pynn had completed his sentence for manslaughter in the 2011 shooting death of his friend Nick Winsor, but broke conditions to stay away from known criminals and abide by a curfew. He also pled guilty to theft from a jewelry store.
Pynn was sentenced yesterday by way of speedy disposition, leaving him with 15 days to serve at HMP.
His lawyer Mark Gruchy noted Pynn’s partner, who is from New Brunswick and was in court for the sentencing, is now expecting a child for Pynn.
Gruchy said they plan to move to New Brunswick after his release, and start a new life together there.
Judge Lois Skanes had some sympathy for Pynn trying to abide by the conditions, given his lengthy record and mostly criminal friends.
She also cited the mere three minutes’ grace the RNC gave him before swooping in with the curfew charge. But she stopped short of freeing him with time served.
Pynn has publicly pledged to turn his life around before.
It’s hoped a newborn could be the incentive he needs to get it done.
