Tweed’s retail locations on Water Street in St. John’s and in Corner Brook have closed, with new locations expected to be opened in the near future.
The licenses associated with the Water Street, Kenmount Road and Corner Brook Tweed locations were part of Canopy’s production agreement with the province in 2018.
That agreement was terminated when Canopy decided to cease operations at its production facility in the capital city’s east end in December of 2020.
According to the NLC, a decision was made to extend a modified conditional license to each of the affected locations, with Water Street and Corner Brook coming to an end on September 30th.
The licence for the Kenmount Road location was extended to the end of March, 2022.
The NLC put out a request for proposals for cannabis retailers at the locations.
The proposals ranked higher than Canopy’s according to the NLC, and the Water Street and Corner Brook locations shut down as of September 30th, with new locations opening “shortly thereafter.”
