The former Justice Minister believes a complaint of political interference made against him was politically-motivated.
The RCMP investigation into alleged political interference by former Minister of Justice and Public Safety Andrew Parsons concluded with no criminal findings.
Nova Scotia RCMP were called in to investigate the complaint made by Joe Smyth that alleged Parsons played a role in Smyth being charged with obstruction of justice in connection with a case involving the issuing of a traffic ticket. That charge against Smyth was eventually dismissed by the court.
Minister Andrew Parsons says the fact that RCMP found no evidence of interference vindicates him as he maintained his innocence from the start.
The minister says it’s clear that the allegations were politically-motivated by the PC ‘s over the course of a few days in December when election talk was in the air. The Premier called the election a few weeks later.
He says he took his role as Attorney-General very seriously and having someone play politics with it was frustrating and sickening.
