Alison Coffin is stepping down as leader of the provincial NDP.
Coffin lost her seat in St. John’s East-Quidi Vidi to Liberal John Abbott in the last provincial election, and has been leading the party without an elected seat ever since.
Party faithful voted on the weekend to conduct a leadership review.
Coffin today indicated that following some reflection, she has decided to step down as leader of the province’s New Democrats.
She spoke with reporters outside the House of Assembly this afternoon, offering her thanks to the people of the district, the party, caucus and her family.
