A woman charged with second-degree murder in the recent stabbing death of a man in downtown St. John’s has pleaded not guilty.
28-year-old Lorraine Obed was arrested and charged shortly after 49-year-old James Corcoran was pronounced dead on August 27.
Corcoran was found lying on the street in the area of Carter’s Hill around 6:30 p.m. that night.
At the time, Obed was wanted on a warrant for an alleged assault against the same man three months earlier, having been in a relationship for some time, as well as breaching conditions of a previous release order.
This morning, Obed entered the not guilty plea, triggering a preliminary inquiry to determine if there’s enough evidence to proceed to trial.
That inquiry has been set for March 1 – 3 next year.
Obed remains in custody at the Clarenville correctional centre for women.
