It’s going to cost 20-25 per cent more to hop a taxi in St. John’s. It’s the first increase in ten years for city cabbies.
Their expenses—especially for gas and insurance—have gone up considerably over that period.
St. John’s City Council will formally approve the new rates at an upcoming meeting.
The flag rate goes to $4.50 from $3.75, the distance rate per km goes to $2.50 from $2.00 and the new waiting rate per hour will be $40.50, up from the current $32.50.
Council has not yet decided on an implementation date.
