The St. John’s Edge are not playing in the National Basketball League of Canada’s upcoming season.
The Edge are currently without a home arena after a deal could not be reached to sign a lease for the former Mile One Centre and pay back debts owed to St. John’s Sports and Entertainment, forfeiting their exclusivity to the stadium. The ABA’s Newfoundland Rogues reached a deal following the failed negotiations.
The team is officially taking a leave of absence from the league’s 10th season. Both the Halifax Hurricanes and Moncton Magic withdrew from the league and are no longer playing, forcing the Island Storm to also sit this season out, shutting down the league’s Atlantic Division.
