It’s the first significant snowfall of the season for the eastern part of the island.
The Avalon Peninsula saw 10-18 cm of snow fall over higher elevation areas, making a messy commute for anyone on the roads Saturday morning and causing a brief power outage in the capital city overnight.
Meteorologist with the Gander Weather Office, Derm Kearney, says there’s a buildup of slush on unplowed roads.
While the snow has officially made its debut this season, it won’t stay for long as temperatures rise to five degrees on the Avalon and are expected to stay above zero over the weekend.
