A good night for Newfoundlanders in the NHL last night.
St. John’s native Alex Newhook suited up for the Colorado Avalanche for the first time since being recalled from the AHL earlier this week.
Newhook picked up an assist on a power play goal in the first period along with 14 minutes of ice time in the game. The Avalanche went on to hammer the Vancouver Canucks 7-1.
Newhook and the Avalanche are back in action Saturday night against San Jose.

Meanwhile, Dawson Mercer of Bay Roberts continued his stellar play to start the season.
Mercer scored his fourth of the year last night in a 4-0 win over the New York Islanders.
The 20-year-old centremen has four goals and four assists, along with 8 penalty minutes, in 12 games played so far this season.
Mercer and the Devlis are back in action Saturday afternoon against the Boston Bruins.
