CUPE members are calling on the public to reject Premier Andrew Furey’s big reset plan, and will be holding an information picket this morning.
Sherry Hillier, CUPE NL President, says the Premier wants the public to believe he has their best interest at heart, but argues his big reset plan puts more money in the pockets of corporations.
She says taking over public services can be extremely profitable by cutting corners on safety, while reducing wages and benefits.
Hillier says it’s “shocking” the Premier would consider selling off publicly-owned assets that generate millions in revenue.
“We may pay off some debt now, but how will we generate revenue in the future if we don’t hold onto these assets?”, asks Hillier.
The information picket takes place this morning at the Farmer’s Market on Freshwater Road, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
