If you’re hoping for Spring weather this week – it’s not looking good.
Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for most of the island portion of the province.
Meteorologist Juliana Paul says rain or snow will begin on the South Coast Tuesday afternoon, which will change over to freezing rain Tuesday night. On the Avalon, it’s expected the system will bring freezing rain and ice pellets, with a mixed bag of precipitation for the remainder of the island.
Paul says it could be a messy commute for motorists Wednesday morning. She says it’s still early to determine exactly how much precipitation we can expect.
We could see significant freezing rain and ice pellet accumulation over the Avalon, Burin, across to Port aux Basques. For the remainder of the island, she says to expect two-to-three-hours of precipitation.
Paul says Environment Canada is also monitoring the possibility of another system to follow this one later in the week.
She says the weaker system is expected to come through Thursday into Friday, and following that, there is possibly a third system moving in over the weekend.
