The price of fuel skyrocketed this week and some categories aren’t finished yet.
Dan McTeague, analyst with Canadians for Affordable Energy, expects to see gas go up by another 2 cents or close to it while diesel will jump by about 4 or 5 cents. The only area where we get a break is with heating and stove oil which will drop by about 5 or 6 cents.
The reason for that 10.5 cent increase in gas prices yesterday was because of a changeover from winter gas to summer gas. Usually, that means an extra 4 or 5 cents a litre but this time it accounted for 7 or 8 cents.
Newfoundland and Labrador regulates fuel prices but McTeague says instead of seeing changes daily, it only means that large increases are sprung on us all at once.
He says people in Ontario usually know by 4 p.m. that day what the price of fuel will be the next day. For example, it’s $1.84 today in Ontario but will be $1.79 tomorrow.
