The NL Employers’ Council says any offset to help with increased costs is welcomed, but those increases just keep coming.
Employers’ Council Executive Director Jaclyn Sullivan was responding to a one-year transitional support program that will provide employers with fewer than 20 employees an additional 50 cents per hour per minimum wage employee.
The offset will help some employers adjust to the increase in the minimum wage, which will rise incrementally to $15 an hour by October of 2023.
Sullivan says while the offset is welcome, the cost of doing business has increased dramatically over the last few years as inflation continues to rise, and setting a cap at 20 employees doesn’t go far enough.
The cut in gas taxes was more meaningful says Sullivan.
