The life of former politician John Efford will be celebrated Saturday in his beloved home town.
The former Liberal cabinet minister who served both provincially and federally passed away on January 2 after a lengthy illness.
His political career spanned from 1985 to 2001.
Efford’s family and friends will welcome members of the public Saturday afternoon at the Pentecostal Tablernacle in Port de Grave to join them in celebrating his life and bid a final farewell to the popular and charismatic politician.
The service will be livestreamed on the church’s Facebook page.
If the weather permits, a memorial flotilla will be held Sunday, departing from Port de Grave at 2:00 p.m. and sailing to Green’s Point at the tip of the Port de Grave peninsula where the family will lower a wreath into the water and scatter Efford’s ashes, which was his final wish.
The flotilla can be viewed by the public from the Port de Grave lighthouse.
