The life of John Efford was celebrated in his hometown of Port de Grave on Saturday.
As was custom during his political career, the Shearstown Brass Band led the march into the Pentecostal Tabernacle.
The popular and charismatic Efford — who served as a cabinet minister in federal and provincial Liberal governments during a 16-career — died back on January 2nd after a lengthy illness.
This afternoon family and friends gathered to remember ‘Landslide John’, so labelled due to the many lopsided victories, and his numerous accomplishments over his lifetime.
The weather also looks promising for a memorial flotilla set to depart Port de Grave around 2 p.m. on Sunday.
The destination is Green’s Point, where the family will place a wreath and scatter Efford’s ashes in the water.
The flotilla can be viewed by the public from the Port de Grave lighthouse.
