The Bay d’Espoir Highway has reopened to traffic in both directions this morning.

The road was closed again overnight as crews continued to tackle forest fires burning along the route.

Travel along the highway to the Connaigre Peninsula has been disrupted since forest fires broke out in the area on Sunday afternoon.

The fires are believed to have been sparked by lightning.

It’s not clear how long the highway will remain open today.
