Police are expected to release more information today on a fatal cash on the Trans-Canada Highway over the weekend.
One person died in the mishap which happened around 1:30 Saturday afternoon near Soldiers Pond, just west of St. John’s.
A car travelling in the westbound lanes of the divided highway went out of control and rolled several times before coming to rest in the grassy median.
It happened at the base of an incline during a brief but heavy downpour of rain.
Traffic was at a standstill in both directions for about an hour as responders helped the injured and crews worked to clear at least one lane for travel.
The short downpour created a sudden risk of hydroplaning in the area but it’s not clear if that was the cause of the crash.
