A popular attraction downtown is not just providing a photo opportunity—it’s putting meals on the table for those less fortunate.
A stuffed 1,250-pound bull moose, affectionately dubbed “Shammoose,” is grabbing attention at the downtown pedestrian mall.
The moose was hunted by Team Broken Earth volunteers with the purpose of donating the meat to The Gathering Place in St. John’s.

Executive Director Paul Davis says they have around 200 people each day drop in for their food service. A donation like this goes a long way.
They estimate 300 pounds of moose meat will go into 2,000 meals. The meat is used in soups, stews, meatballs, pasta sauce and enchiladas, which can only be provided with a donation like this.
