The Hindu Temple of St. John’s is planning to once again hold its biggest fundraiser of the year at the Royal St. John’s Regatta.
The temple will be hosting an Indian food stall at the event from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and takeout will also be available at the Temple itself from 11:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for those that can’t make it lakeside.
Board Chair Aruna Ralhan says all the food is prepared by community volunteers. The proceeds go toward the operations of the temple and as well as their community work such as donations to food banks and charities, and awareness of Hinduism in the community.
Ralhan says they have been doing the fundraiser for close on 50 years, noting that the Hindu Temple was the first place to introduce Indian food locally.
She says the generation before her started the tradition as a way to introduce people to different foods and cultures.
