A Newfoundlander is being recognized for his work in iceberg research.
Brian Hill of Mount Pearl has been awarded the Admirals’ Medal for over 25 years of work researching icebergs, snow and ice as the supervisor of the Ice Tank test facility at the Institute for Ocean Technology with the National Research Council.
Hill has established a set of four, 200-year databases of historical ice conditions in the North Atlantic ocean, with over 170,000 ice and iceberg reports gathered. He also spent much of his life working in the field in the Antarctic and Arctic.
The Admirals’ Medal is presented annually for outstanding achievement in maritime-related research, technology, and academic studies.
Hill will be presented with the medal by Lt. Governor Judy Foote on August 23.
