The St. John’s Regional Fire Department has made the decision to continue with the fire ban currently in place.
The ban covers St. John’s, Mount Pearl and Paradise. Included in the ban are backyard fire pits, chimineas, charcoal BBQs and open fires. Propane BBQs and firepits are permitted.
The ban will be in effect until further notice.
The decision was made following consultations with other fire departments on the northeast Avalon, as well as the provincial government.
The department says given the high temperatures and low rainfall amounts there is still a high concern of fire risk.
Those using propane firepits and barbeques are reminded to keep a hose or fire extinguisher handy and to follow the manufacturer’s requirements.
The department says they are monitoring the situation and will provide updates on any changes to the ban.
