The provincial government has announced five new seats for the Family Medicine Residency Program for International Medical Graduates at MUN’s Faculty of Medicine.
The program provides a pathway for international medical graduates who want to return to Canada to practice medicine.
Specifically, Premier Andrew Furey says they will be targeting Newfoundlanders and Labradorians who have been studying abroad.
Furey says it is very complex to get a degree in another country and then try to create a path to residency and then practice back in Canada.
He says the new seats are a target that gives certainty that students will be able to practice in Newfoundland and Labrador, and in Canada.
Successful applicants to the program will be able to begin their training on July 1, 2023.
