A local vet is warning pet owners about an outbreak of kennel cough in the metro region.
Kennel cough, or infectious bronchitis in dogs, results in a persistent cough, and is sending concerned pet owners to emergency vet clinics for treatment.
Dr. Maggie Brown-Bury says the illness, which is highly infectious among dogs, is usually viral and the treatment options are limited.
She says there are vaccines for the cough, but they don’t protect against every strain, so every few years they see an outbreak. She says if the cause is viral “there isn’t really much to do except let it run its course.”
