Residents of Change Islands are frustrated with the lack of communication they’re receiving from council regarding new development regulations.
Two-thirds of the population signed a petition urging council to reconsider implementing restrictions on the development of buildings such as businesses and structures used for fishing and wood-harvesting activities.
Longtime resident Heather White says residents do not fully understand the terms of the regulations and despite multiple attempts, council will not address their concerns.
She says she is one of many residents who don’t understand the benefits of a municipal plan.
White says the community has a consultant team for residents to voice their opinions on possible changes, but she says it’s hard to do suggest anything when they don’t know what consequences may come from it.
