A group of 76 Afghan refugees arrived in the province on the weekend.
The group left Islamabad in Pakistan on a Government of Canada charter flight last Thursday and landed in Halifax on Friday, September 9.
The newcomers arrived at St. John’s International Airport on Sunday, September 11.
Immigration Minister Gerry Byrne says despite the poor weather, the families have all been settled away thanks to the “tireless work” of the Association for New Canadians.
He says the Association is now identifying language and employment skills and anything else they need. He says the latest group joins over 200 Afghan refugees who arrived in the province over the last year.
