There was a lot of emotion at St. John’s International Airport last night as 177 Ukrainian refugees arrived on a flight from Warsaw, Poland.
Last night’s flight is the third group of Ukrainian refugees to arrive in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Many gathered at the airport to welcome friends and family to their new home—including Sergii Plakhtti who arrived to the province from Ukraine in June and was awaiting the arrival of his wife and two children.

Plakhtti, who hasn’t seen his family in four months, was emotional as his young son ran into his arms.
His 15-year-old daughter Karina was overjoyed as she received a bouquet of roses from her father.
She says it’s the best feeling ever to be reunited with her family. She is grateful to the province for giving her and her family a safe place to call home.
