Remembrance Day is being marked this morning at memorials, Legions and cenotaphs across the province.
The biggest event is at the National War Memorial on Duckworth Street in St. John’s.
A Remembrance Day parade will form at the Sergeants’ Memorial on Queen’s Road at 10:10 and march to the National War Memorial for a ceremony beginning at 10:55 a.m.
A number of streets in the downtown will be closed to accommodate the ceremonies including Queen’s Road, Church Hill, Water Street and portions of Duckworth Street.
Road Closures
Some municipal road closures include and ceremonies include:
St. John’s:
Queen’s Road – 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
Church Hill – 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
Duckworth Street (Bates Hill to Prescott Street) – 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
Duckworth Street (Prescott Street to Wood Street) – 10;30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m.
Water Street (Prescott Street to Cochrane Street) – 10:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m.
Water Street (Prescott Street to Beck’s Cove) – Noon to 1:30 p.m.
No Parking – Tow Away Zones
Duckworth Street – adjacent to the War Memorial
Water Street (both sides) – Cochrane Street to Queen’s Cove
Streets may close earlier than scheduled if traffic around the War Memorial becomes congested.
Mount Pearl:
Remembrance Day Parade and Ceremony from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Road Closures:
Roosevelt Avenue between St. Andrews Avenue and Ruth Avenue
Ruth Avenue between Roosevelt Avenue and First Street
Also, starting at 3 p.m. on November 10, there will be no street parking permitted on Roosevelt Avenue between Jacqueline Road and Ruth Avenue.
Paradise:
A wreath-laying ceremony will take place at the Town Hall parking lot from 10:50 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
Conception Bay South:
Remembrance Day Service at The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 50 and the Town of Conception Bay South will host the Remembrance Day Service. The parade will start from Sobeys parking lot at 10:15 a.m. and travel to the Monument of Honour.
Portugal Cove-St Phillips:
Remembrance Day parade and memorial ceremony led by members of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 10.
The parade will form at the St. Lawrence Anglican Church parking lot at 10:30 a.m. and head towards the war memorial on Loop Drive for the memorial service at 11:00 a.m.
Residents can expect some possible traffic delays in the area of Loop Drive and Portugal Cove Road (between St. Lawrence Anglican Church and Loop Drive) between 10:30 a.m. and noon.
Corner Brook:
West Street will be temporarily closed from 10:00 a.m. on Friday to allow for this year’s Remembrance Day Ceremony. Traffic detours will be in place until the parade has made its way to Remembrance Square.
