A new cardiovascular and stroke institute in the capital city region will improve heart and stroke treatment and care for people across the province and Dr. Sean Connors, Clinical Chief—Cardiac Critical Care, Eastern Health couldn’t be more pleased.
The new health care facility was announced last week, and Dr.Connors says it will make a dramatic difference.
He says it will give him the ability to extend his reach beyond the overpass with a strong virtual component.
He says for patients who suffer a heart attack there are only two questions: ‘can I get good treatment?’ and ‘can I get good treatment fast?’
The facility will also help to improve cardiac related health outcomes for women. He says the province has an excellent facility for the treatment of cancer, now it’s time to have a similar centre of excellence for cardiac care.
He says the number one cause of death of Newfoundlanders and Labradorians—one in three—is related to cardiac disease while heart attack kills five times more women than all breast cancers.
