The leader of the provincial NDP says he plans to work collaboratively with the party and categorically rejects any notion that the work will rest on the shoulders of one person.
Jim Dinn dropped the interim tag on his title Tuesday morning after he was acclaimed leader of the NL NDP—as he was the only person to submit a nomination for the position.
He hopes that whenever there is another bid for the party leadership that plenty of others will be vying for the job.
Dinn says it comes down to the fact that the role is a significant commitment and welcomes anyone who wants to step forward in the future. However, Dinn likes to believe when people do come forward they’re doing it not only for the good of the party, but for the good of the people of the province as well.
As for bolstering the party and attracting new candidates ahead of any provincial election down the road, Dinn says if people are interested in change and tired of the way things have been done, it’s not only important that candidates come forward.
He explains that it’s also important at the grass-roots-level to get organized in terms of district associations and support the candidates as that’s where the strength comes from.
