A new play about gender-based violence is hitting the stage in the capital city.
TODOS Productions’ “Happy Anniversary“, written by Vanessa Cardoso-Whelan, debuts this week at the LSPU Hall in downtown St. John’s.
The show, directed by Ruth Lawrence, stars Ana Luisa Ramos as Marta and Bruno Vinhas as Carlos—a couple celebrating their 12th wedding anniversary. The show also stars Alicia Cruz as Mel.

Told through a dinner celebration juxtaposed with flashbacks to earlier in their relationship, the show details the harm Marta has suffered at the hands of Carlos, with the violence presented on stage through tense tango music and dance.
The show opens tomorrow at 8:00 p.m. and runs until April 30, with an afternoon matinee at 2:00 p.m. on April 29.
