A famous satirist and comedian from this province will be gracing Canada’s Walk of Fame.

Rick Mercer is among this year’s inductees, only the second Newfoundlander to be featured on the walk—the first being the late Gordon Pinsent.

The political commentator rose to prominence as one of the creators and stars of This Hour Has 22 Minutes, before moving on to his own show, The Rick Mercer Report.

In recognition of his entertainment and humanitarian work, he joins Edmonton Oilers forward Connor McDavid, former Supreme Court Justice Rosalie Abella, and the “Degrassi” franchise in this year’s class.

Mercer says he was “flabbergasted” to be inducted.

He says he would walk the sidewalk in Toronto where the Walk of Fame is located every day to work, never imagining that he would one day be featured.
