St. John’s will host the 2024 Canadian Folk Music Awards.
The announcment was made this afternoon by Steve Crocker, the minister responsible for culture and the arts.
It marks the first time St. John’s has hosted the event since 2008.
Leading up to the awards ceremony, there will be a week-long celebration of Newfoundland and Labrador and Canadian folk music, with special events such as showcases and all-ages events to celebrate the local flavour of folk music.
The week will also coincide with the recently announced Year of the Arts, a celebration of the province’s rich arts and cultural sector.
Today’s announcement was made, appropriately enough, at The Ship Pub in downtown St. John’s, known for giving local musicians a venue to stage their craft, and recently named Venue of the Year at the East Coast Music Awards.
