It’s Father’s Day weekend, a good time for men to think about prostate cancer.
Motorcycles will be revving up tomorrow morning for the Ride For Dad, an event which raises money in support of research.
The honourary chairman, VOCM Cabin Party host Brian O’Connell, had no symptoms 10 years ago when a routine blood test revealed that his prostate was 50 per cent cancerous. He had surgery, underwent radiation treatment and is now on hormonal medication.
He says from the time he was diagnosed early in 2014, the number of new drugs which are now available is staggering. He encourages men to make an appointment to have their PSA checked.
Kerri Hodder, a member of executive team of the Avalon Chapter of Ride for Dad, says you don’t have to have a motorcycle to become involved.
The website is www.ridefordad.ca/avalon and Hodder encourages people to go on the suite and donate or go to the launch of the actual event at Newfoundland Power on Kenmount Road.
Registration starts at 9:00 a.m. and the cycles leave at 10:00 a.m..
